Hants CCC players signed up for teamArchie golf day …
Nick Gubbins will be joined by 8 teammates from Hampshire CCC for the teamArchie golf day at Hockley to launch Nick’s young cricketer mentoring programme.
We are proud that Nick, with the support of his management team (Advantage), has helped us set up a programme for promising young cricketers. Nick is mentoring 17-year-old O’Dane Giddings and 19-year-old Jahir Somerville, two young stars of the ACE (African Caribbean Engagement) programme, assisting in their bid to climb the ladder of professional cricket.
O’Dane is completing an Electrical Installation course at Barnet Southgate college and has recently, with the help of Nick, joined the highly competitive Hornsey Cricket Club. An explosive bowling all-rounder, his pace and power are utilised as an opening bowler and in the final overs. Equally ferocious with the bat, he strikes the ball with immense power and, often, over the boundary rope for six runs.
Jahir is studying Business and Law at the University of Bradford and hopes to break into the MCCU set up. He bowls with genuine pace that would trouble most batters and personifies the modern all-rounder, equally capable of delivering game-changing moments with the ball, bat, and in the field.
Nick has had a great start to his second season with Hampshire with a double hundred in their rain-ruined draw against Lancashire and, averaging 58.14, is amongst the leading run scorers in the county championship.
